Scholarships
Green Mountain Adaptive Sports annually awards about 90 scholarships to Vermont residents living with a permanent disability; 35-40 scholarships for skiing and riding at Stowe Mountain Resort, 10-25 each for swim lessons, indoor climbing, movement classes, and for kayaking lessons.
75% of our total budget is dedicated to funding scholarships. The rest is used to purchase adaptive equipment, to support special events, to offer clinics to instructors, and to fund athletes wishing to participate in race camps.
Athletes awarded a ski and ride scholarship are mainly students of the Stowe, Morrisville and Waterbury schools who receive eight one-on-one lessons with the Stowe Mountain Resort Adaptive Program. For most of these youngsters, being awarded a scholarship is their only chance at joining their fellow student-athletes on the slopes as part of their weekly school program, as well as an amazing opportunity to enjoy skiing and riding. Vermont residents living with a disability can also apply to receive an adaptive ski pass.
GMAS relies mainly on the generosity of community members, corporations and foundations to raise the funds necessary to offer scholarships to deserving Vermonters. Our organization also hosts various fundraising events throughout the year to raise both awareness for our cause and capital to continue our mission.
