July 23, 2020, Stowe, Vermont – As scientists have become increasingly knowledgeable about transmission of the Sars-CoV-2 virus, the agent of CoV-19, our partners have been modifying many of their practices to permit a safer return to activity. The first of our partners to welcome our sponsored athletes back for adaptive lessons is The Swimming Hole (TSH) in Stowe. Safety measures at TSH include a temperature check and wellness questionnaire upon arriving, rules for proper social distancing, limited use of the locker rooms, required mask wearing except in the water, and reduced hours to allow facility wide cleaning. Water in the pool is lightly chlorinated, which kills the virus.
Swimming offers one of the best all-around activities. It’s benefits include (1) a full body workout with limited impact stress on your body, (2) building endurance, muscle strength, and cardio fitness, (3) helping to retain a healthy weight, and (4) toning muscles and building strength. Along with the physical benefits, swimming is great way to de-stress and relax.
TSH’s lead swim coach, Elaine Fortin, focuses on safety in the water along with building a strong skill set. If you are new to swimming and simply want to try it out or want to advance your skills in the water, we encourage you to apply for one of our scholarships.
