Scholarships
Green Mountain Adaptive Sports annually awards nearly 200 scholarships to Vermont residents living with a permanent disability so they can participate in our various adaptive sport programs.
Over 75% of our total budget is dedicated to funding scholarships. The rest is used to offer clinics to instructors, to purchase adaptive equipment used at partnering facilities, to support special events, and to fund general expenses. GMAS does not sponsor specialized equipment for individuals, nor do we lend our equipment outside the lessons.
Athletes awarded a ski and ride scholarship receive up to eight one-on-one lessons to ski with the Stowe Mountain Resort Adaptive Program, or with the Smugglers’ Notch Ski School. Many of the recipients are students who cannot otherwise ski in the regular program offered by their schools. The adaptive lessons gives them a chance to join their fellow student-athletes on the slopes as part of their weekly school program. For many scholarship recipients, it is also an amazing opportunity to enjoy skiing and riding, at times with family and friends. Vermont residents living with a disability can also apply to receive an adaptive ski pass.
GMAS offers scholarships to nine adaptive sport programs. Read more about each, and apply today if you qualify.
GMAS relies mainly on the generosity of community members, corporations and foundations to raise the funds necessary to offer scholarships to deserving Vermonters. Our organization also hosts various fundraising events throughout the year to raise both awareness for our cause and capital to continue our mission.
