We are excited to announce the appointment of Edie Perkins as the first Executive Director of Green Mountain Adaptive Sports. Edie joined the organization on July 1, marking an exciting new chapter in GMAS’s growth.
Edie brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, strategic planning, and adaptive sports. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of the Kelly Brush Foundation, where she led the organization through a significant period of growth and organizational transition.
A lifelong athlete, Edie was an accomplished runner and cyclist, finishing 25th overall in the 2005 Boston Marathon. In 2017, her life changed when she was struck by a car while riding her bike, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down. Determined to stay active, she returned to cycling on a handcycle and quickly became a competitive athlete once again. Her lived experience as a person with a disability, combined with her passion for sports and community, gives her a unique perspective that will help shape the future of Green Mountain Adaptive Sports.
As Executive Director, Edie will lead the organization’s strategic direction, strengthen its operational infrastructure, expand fundraising and marketing efforts, deepen partnerships, and build on the tremendous momentum created over the past 15 years.
“We are excited to welcome Edie to Green Mountain Adaptive Sports,” said Cynthia Needham, Founder and President of the Board of Directors. “Hiring our first Executive Director is a major milestone for our organization. Over the past 15 years, GMAS has grown from a small volunteer-led effort into a statewide network of more than 14 partner organizations, all working together to expand access to adaptive sports for Vermonters with disabilities. Edie’s leadership experience, strategic vision, and deep commitment to adaptive sports make her the ideal person to lead Green Mountain Adaptive Sports into its next chapter.”
“I am honored to join Green Mountain Adaptive Sports and help lead the organization into its next phase—one that expands access, strengthens sustainability, and deepens community impact,” said Edie. “Sports have shaped my life for as long as I can remember. After my injury, they became my pathway back to confidence, independence, and community. Adaptive sports are far more than recreation—they are catalysts for dignity, resilience, connection, and joy.”
“I look forward to working alongside our Board, volunteers, partners, and supporters to advance GMAS’s mission,” Edie added. “Together, we’ll build on the organization’s strong foundation and create even more opportunities for Vermonters with disabilities to discover the life-changing power of adaptive sports.”
Please join us in welcoming Edie Perkins to Green Mountain Adaptive Sports. We are excited for what lies ahead.
